Central Ohio residents could hit the jackpot by sampling signature foods from 30 area restaurants and playing games of chance during the Taste of Gahanna — Casino Night. The 17th annual event will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Aladdin Shrine Center & Conference Center, 3850 Stelzer Road. The signature event of the Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce is designed to feature the city’s restaurateurs and businesses in the food industry before the holidays.

Tickets cost $30 at the door and include a goody bag with “fun money” for casino games.

“We decided to change the theme and create a different activity (with Casino Night),” said Leslee Blake, chamber director. “It’s something extra for people to get involved and win some door prizes.”

In addition to food samples from area restaurants and businesses, Blake said, it’s an opportunity for people to experience something different.

“(A guest) will get $100 in fun money for each ticket they purchase for admission,” she said. “It increases their chances of winning door prizes. They can redeem that fun money for door prizes.”

Some of the prizes will be gift baskets and gift certificates to area businesses.

Blake said the games of chance will be managed professionally through VIP Casino Events and will include poker, craps, blackjack and roulette.

“We heard people love the event, but it’s repetitive,” Blake said. “We’re excited about it. We love Halloween but decided to make a change. There won’t be a Halloween focus. We’ll have a photo booth this year, and that will be a lot of fun.”

New participants this year are Cork, Wine and Dine, Da Levee, FM Food & Music All-American Bar & Grill, Little Caesars, Mi Tradicion Mexican Restaurant, Tom + Chee and zpizza.

Blake said the new participants are in addition to traditional favorites, like City Barbeque, J. Gumbo’s and Koko Tea Salon & Bakery.

“J. Gumbo’s is defending its title of best entry of five years,” Blake said.

Other scheduled participants include Costco Wholesale at Easton, Creekside Conference & Event Center, Edible Arrangements, Fado Irish Pub, Giant Eagle of Gahanna, Gigi’s Cupcakes, The Golf Depot’s Barry’s Grill & Pub, It’s All Natural, Jefferson Country Club, Jet’s Pizza, Kensington Place, Kroger, Longhorn Steakhouse Gahanna, Max & Erma’s, National Church Residences at Stygler Road, Ohio Herb Education Center, Old Bag of Nails, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Sam’s Club and Wesley Ridge Retirement Community.
